Common Herbs Used in Diabetes


Diabetes mellitus, commonly known as "diabetes" means "sweet urine." Diabetes mellitus means "to flow, honey" in Greek

Diabetes affects the body's ability to produce or respond to insulin. Insulin is a hormone that allows blood glucose (blood sugar) to enter body cells and used for energy.

Diabetes outcome beginning defect in insulin secretion, insulin action, or both. In diabetes, excess glucose remains in the blood. Elevated levels of blood glucose (hyperglycemia) lead to spillage of glucose in the urine.

Common Herbs Used in Diabetes 

INDIA KINO, MALABAR KINO

The tree (Pterocarpus massupium) is the source of the Kino of the European pharmacopeas. In fact, it has been used to regenerate functional pancreatic beta cells. Flavonoid epicatechin extracted from the bark of this plant has been shown to prevent alloxan-induced damage in rat beta cells.

Gymnema Sylvestre (Gurmar, Cherukurinja)

Gymnema helps the pancreas to produce insulin in type 2 diabetes. It also improves the ability of insulin in the blood sugar in both type I and type 2 diabetes. Some people used to take about 500 mg per day of gymnema extract.

BLUEBERRY LEAVE

  1. Very informative blog here. Artichoke and buchu are believed to be effective in the treatment of diabetes. Buchu(Agathosma betulina) is especially recommended for early stage treatment of diabetes. I look forward to reading more of your work.
